Go GIRLS
I am currently facilitating the go girls program with bbbs. It's been a great opportunity to share my experiences growing up with the young group of girls I'm working with! I'm having so much fun getting to know my little's. There so full of life and brightness, and I'm very glad that I can be apart of such an amazing experience.

Givers Gain
I continue my association with BBBS today with various fundraising events - golf tournament / curling bonspiel / Bowl for Kids Sake ( although I still prefer to call it Bowl for Millions - which by the way started right here in Barrie with Executive Directot Stephannie Cox and board member Ed Jennings).
I also sat on the board and continued on to be President of the association. And I am proud and pleased of these involements; but my best reward was being an active Big Brother - that's when the rubber hits the road and you make a connection and a difference in a young person's life. And in the process you end up making an even bigger difference in your own life !

From Little to Big
My name is Katelynn and I am 20 years old. I went into foster care when I was seven years old because my parents had substance abuse problems. While I lived with my aunt, my sister and I signed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters. My sister was matched before me.
Her Big Sister was very nice and took my sister to do a lot of fun things. Once she even took my sister and me to Canada's Wonderland. While I was on the waiting list, I also went to a Blue Jay's game with some other kids on the waiting list. I had so much fun! I met this one girl that I wish I had the chance to keep in touch with. To this day, I often think about this girl and the fun we had at the baseball game.
Eventually, I got my own Big Sister. We did a lot of fun things together because we had a lot in common. I got to meet her boyfriend, friends, and met her family when we had a sleepover. She even signed me up for signing lessons. Unfortunately, I moved and our match ended.
After we moved, my youngest sister and brother signed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes- Haliburton. I went away to Seneca College to study Social Service Work and when I came back to the City of Kawartha Lakes for the summer, I learned that BBBSKL-H was hiring a summer student to coordinate their Big Bunch Program. I applied and was hired for the job! Aside from running this program, I am also a Big Sister. I met my Little a couple days ago and so far the match is going great. She is also in foster care so when I shared my story with her, she was very excited that we had so much in common.
Being affiliated with BBBS has had a wonderful impact on my life, as well as, many other people I know that are/were involved with the agency. I am grateful for my experience as a Little and extremely grateful for being given the opportunity to give the same experience to my own Little and the kids in my Big Bunch program.

Daisy Chains
Not only did I want to make a difference for a young girl, but I also wanted an opportunity to do young girl things too. So now I paint sidewalks with chalk, paint easter eggs, go to talent shows, canoe, and make daisy chains. I had lost my parents when I was young, and feel that I missed out on those things, so now, I get to be 11 with my little, and I love that.

BACK TO IT
When I was younger I was a little. I remember going to Camp Mockingee and Lake Gibson. My ‘Big’s name was Kathy. The people I met will forever be forged in my head. I also remember the Bowl for Millions and the roller skating and various outings, I loved it. Now I get involved with the Bowl for Kids Sake annually and truly enjoy the experiences both past and present. Thank you for giving me a vast array of childhood memories as well as the most recent ones. Thank you, thank you!!
