My experience at St. Dominic in Lindsay,ON
II became an in-school mentor for my co-op and I really enjoyed it. When I was young a few of my friends had big sisters and I always thought that is what I want to do when I get older so when I heard I could do in-school mentoring I instantly fell in love with the idea. I got paired up with 9 different students and saw each of them for an hour a week. It was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed getting to know each of them. We would play board games, play outside, play in the gym, color, paint, or whatever they felt like doing. We also did some baking and made ice cream. We would plan ahead what we would do for the next time we were together in order for me to have it set up when they got there. When it was coming to the end of the school year I planned to take them all outside for the afternoon with one teacher and we did some tie dye, played games and had snacks. They all really enjoyed it and didn't want the day to end. I even made a t-shirt myself and had each of the kids sign it when it was dry. To this day I have it on my wall with the painting and other things the kids gave me. Even when I was done my placement I would contact the principal and see when I could come in to say hi to the kids and give them little gift bags like I had done while I was there. They all really enjoyed seeing me again and some even cried when they saw me. They all wanted me to come back and continue seeing them each week but I wasn't able to due to me having to finish high school. I miss them every day and hope someday soon I can go back and see them again.

Daisy Chains
Not only did I want to make a difference for a young girl, but I also wanted an opportunity to do young girl things too. So now I paint sidewalks with chalk, paint easter eggs, go to talent shows, canoe, and make daisy chains. I had lost my parents when I was young, and feel that I missed out on those things, so now, I get to be 11 with my little, and I love that.

BACK TO IT
When I was younger I was a little. I remember going to Camp Mockingee and Lake Gibson. My ‘Big’s name was Kathy. The people I met will forever be forged in my head. I also remember the Bowl for Millions and the roller skating and various outings, I loved it. Now I get involved with the Bowl for Kids Sake annually and truly enjoy the experiences both past and present. Thank you for giving me a vast array of childhood memories as well as the most recent ones. Thank you, thank you!!

Katimavik volunteer
I'm a Katimavik volunteer from Quebec city and my placement in Smiths Falls was with BBBS of Lanark County.
I was doing some sport mentoring at Duncan J. Schoular elementary school during lunch time.
I'm so happy that I got in contact with BBBS and that I had the chance to become a mentor.

A good thing :)
I was pretty new to Orangeville and Canada when I just happened to see a commercial on TV, and thought it was something I wanted to do :)
I was matched with Alesia when she was just about 8, and I quickly became very attached to her, her sister and Alesia’s mom. A couple of years down the road I was asked to become a board member and later on served as president, this made Alesia very proud ? Since I didn't work outside of the home, I think my number was on speed dial. Alesia and I appeared in the Banner at least once a month. I still have a huge binder. Alesia did enjoy this and we often talk about it.
I still have good contact with Alesia and we make a point of trying to go for a coffee and catch up, it definitely has become a friendship that I know will last a lifetime, and I would like to think I made a small difference.
BBBS is a wonderful organization, and at some point I think I would like to be a part of it again :)
