A smile makes a BIG difference in anyones day
I remember the first day I meet Nicole, she was so shy and would not say very much. We went to a for lunch at Smitty's in Barrie, On and she feltvery awkward. We talked about things she liked and what she wanted to do when we got together. We decided on swimming, going for walks, lunch at "Lick's Burgers, and just hanging out. We spent many hours together having lots of laughs, we were matched for 6 years. Nicole became a big part of my family.....and she still is today. I live in Halifax, NS now, but still have contact with Nicole. She has come out of her shell and is a very confident young lady, her smile beams from ear to ear. She has given me so much and I feel honored to have been her Big Sister!
Thanks for reading and many happy days for you and your BBBS friends!

Two terrific little kids
I was matched with Brenden who was in Grade 1 at the time. He was a bundle of energy and a little mischievious. Occasionally his older sister Brandie would join us. We were never bored for activities. Some of the most memorable occasions included a summer BBBS camp near Rocky Mountain House with Brenden, a week that I looked after both kids when their grandma won a trip for 2 to Hawaii and took their mom as her guest. Also recall comforting Brandie in the middle of a ski run at Rabbit Hill after a minor wipe-out. Brandie and I have recently reconnected. She has become a professional social worker, looking after kids in care in addition to her own little one. She tells me my little brother Brenden has recently become a first-time dad as well. Brandie barely remembered me and I wouldn't have recognized her she has changed so much. Unfortunately Brenden was so small at the time that he does not remember me at all.

Lifes rewarding experiences
As I am a single parent I started in the program for my daughter in 2003. She started in the mentoring program and then we went to the Big/Little program. The program has done wonders for us. It gave my daughter a chance to meet people and have an opportunity to do things and go places we normally couldn't afford to do. One year she even went to the Tim Hortons camp. That was quite an honour and a chance of a lifetime for her. She met lots of kids and made lots of friends. She is 15 now and only has one more year in the program. I was so impressed with the program that I decided to become a Board Member so that I can give back what was given to my daughter and myself. It has been quite rewarding. When my daughter is a little older she too wants to become a teen mentor. I thank Big Brothers and Sisters of Cold Lake for all that they have done. We have definitely grown as a family because of this agency.
